Once the eye patches were the symbol of a reckless life, of adventurers and pirates, but for different reasons it was also used by hard and self-confident filmmakers like Raoul Walsh (March 11, 1887 – December 31, 1980), John Ford (February 1, 1894 – August 31, 1973) and Nicholas Ray (August 7, 1911 – June 16, 1979).
